Bloomberg reported on Tuesday morning that Special Counsel Robert Mueller issued a subpoena to Deutsche Bank, Germany's largest lender, several weeks ago.

Mueller is investigating Russian attempts to influence the 2016 US presidential election and possible collusion by Trump associates.

Trump's lawyer denied a subpoena had been issued.

Jay Sekulow, one of Trump's personal lawyers, said Deutsche Bank has not received any subpoena for financial records relating to the president as part of Mueller's probe. This was the middle of the financial crisis, a fact Trump tried to leverage in court, arguing he should not have to repay money he owed Deutsche Bank because it was "one of the banks primarily responsible for the economic dysfunction we are now facing".

An internal review conducted by Deutsche Bank showed no connection between those transactions and Trump, but now Mueller's squad of investigators will make their own judgment.

"Deutsche Bank New York, even though he sued them, even though he wrote them one of the most ridiculous writs in legal history, continued to lend very large sums to Trump, while simultaneously its Moscow division was running a - I was going to say elaborate, but in fact it was actually quite crude, large-scale money laundering scheme for Kremlin VIPs, who are still anonymous, from which Deutsche Bank London and Deutsche Bank New York made big profits", he says. But the Deutsche Bank subpoena may indicate that the special prosecutor is still looking at a wide range of data, including the president's financial dealings.

Relations between Trump, Tillerson strained nearly from the start
The favored candidate to replace Tillerson is current CIA Director Mike Pompeo , which would leave a vacancy at the CIA. Other officials say the Trump-Tillerson relationship has been souring for some time, despite Tillerson's denials.

But by Wednesday afternoon, Bloomberg Politics corrected its story to note that the subpoena related to people "affiliated" with Trump.

Deutsche Bank earlier this year rebuffed efforts by Democratic U.S. lawmakers to get more information on its dealings with Trump as well as any information it may have about whether the Republican, his family or advisers had financial backing from Russian Federation. He said that no subpoena had been received by the bank and that no records had been turned over to Mueller as a result.

All of those loans were taken out in 2012 and will mature in 2023 and 2024, according to the disclosure.

AFP reported late Tuesday that the subpoena sought information about Paul Manafort, the former Trump campaign official who was indicted in October.
