A auto bomb attack struck a Pakistani police truck in the southwestern city of Quetta on Wednesday, killing at least five policemen and two civilians.

According to DawnNews, security sources claimed a roadside bomb exploded just as a police vehicle carrying 35 police personnel passed the area.

However, the nature of the blast has yet to be ascertained.

The body of the victim was shifted to the Civil Hospital, Quetta, for autopsy.

Security forces have cordoned off the area and kicked off a search operation in the surroundings.

No group had claimed responsibility for the vehicle bombing. While 22 others were injured and are being treated at the hospital in Quetta.

Chief Minister Sanaullah Zehri told reporters that the bomb contained 80 kilogrammes of explosive material. He expressed the resolve to continue the war against terrorism "till the elimination of the last terrorist".

Later in the day, unidentified gunmen shot dead CTD Police Inspector Abdul Salam at Qambrani Road of the provincial capital, said police.

Rescue teams, police and security forces rushed to the site after the blast was reported.

Home Minister Bugti, while condemning the attack, said the war against terrorism was not over and would go on until no terrorist remained in the area.

Balochistan has experienced incidents of violence and targeted killings for over a decade.

Fifteen people, including eight soldiers, were killed when a suicide bomber targeted a military truck near the Pishin bus stop in Quetta on August 13.

Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi also strongly condemned the terrorist attack in Quetta and directed authorities to provide best possible medical treatment to the injured.

Talking about the Sariab Road attack, Bugti said that a auto rammed the police vehicle before catching fire, adding it was "apparently a suicide attack".

The attack took place on Sibi Road in Sariab area.
