At least seven people have died and a few more are feared trapped after a building collapsed in the Ejipura area of Bengaluru on the morning of Monday, October 16. Bengaluru development minister KJ George also announced that the state government will adopt the girl whose parents died in the collapse.

While clearing debris to pull out those trapped in the building, three fire-fighters were injured as a wall fell on them, police said adding they had been shifted to a nearby hospital.

It was first thought a cylinder blast had caused the collapse but the Karnataka home minister Ramalinga Reddy seemed to refute the theory. Bengaluru Mayor R Sampath Raj, however, said four families were residing in the building. The minor girl was rescued from the debris but she lost both her parents in the building collapse incident.

Initially it was reported that buildings collapsed due to cylinder blast. They said a noise of the blast was heard and the 20-year-old building was reduced to rubble. Six bodies, including that of two women, have been recovered. Kalavathi and Ravichandran were in the first floor. He had rented it out to four families.

Following the incident, the administration rushed police and firefighters to the spot to carry out rescue work.

Meanwhile, the authorities managed to rescue a three-year-old girl from the debris of the building.

In the same area, an illegally constructed multi-storey building was demolished after it tilted to one side in August.
