Twitter promises 'new rules' after women hold day-long boycott

Twitter to Roll Out New Safety Rules After Rose McGowan-Sparked Protest After boycott, Twitter pledges to introduce new anti-abuse rules

Women chose to boycott Twitter over its decision to temporarily lock the account of actress Rose McGowan after she spoke out about alleged abuse by Hollywood film producer Harvey Weinstein. The platform has also been warned that in silencing any sexual assault victim, others may be discouraged from reporting their experiences.

A day after WomenBoycottTwitter trending across the world on social media, the micro blogging site's CEO Jack Dorsey put out a series of tweets regarding abuse and how Twitter plans on tackling it in future.

The company's swift response is a culmination of years of critique that it doesn't do enough to protect users from targeted harassment, including racism, hateful language, and doxxing.

In light of all this, the sudden suspension of McGowan's account looked especially arbitrary. To do this, an anticipated set of new rules will address unwanted sexual advances, nonconsensual nudity, hate symbols, "violent groups", and tweets that "glorifies [sic] violence".

Considering Google's new direction, we are expecting to see more exclusive services and features for the Google hardware. However, it has been confirmed now as it is written clearly in the footnotes of the Pixel 2 listing on Google store.

Facebook, on the other hand, has attracted protests for its no-nudity policy, which has resulted in the banning of photos of breast-feeding mothers and a historic image of wartime Vietnam. "Today we saw voices silencing themselves and voices speaking out because we're still not doing enough". "We spoke when we had something to say".

"We've been working intensely over the past few months and focused today on making some critical decisions", he tweeted. However, he also said that it's not as high a priority as enforcing rules on trolls and people putting out abusive tweets.

Twitter's approach to policing content has been under more intense scrutiny in recent months.

The platform is also being questioned over the role it played in Russia's efforts to meddle in the U.S. presidential election previous year. Though Twitter is ubiquitous in media because of frequent use by US President Donald Trump and many celebrities, the company has struggled financially.
