Walmart is also working to create a similar streamlined returns process for items sold by third-party sellers on Walmart.com. Shareholders looking to interpret historical returns should keep one caveat in mind: you can't assume that the future will be like the past. Each returned item can either be returned for a refund or exchanged. And, it seems the big-box retailer is onto something.

The big-box giant plans to roll out a program next month called Mobile Express Returns that will let customers refund online orders in seconds by scanning auto-generated QR codes in any of Walmart's almost 5,000 stores. Done! The refund should be back in your payment account the next day.

United States retailer Walmart had announced that it is simplified its return process with the launch of its new Mobile Express Returns service. By comparison, Walmart has 4,700 locations, which places a Walmart store within 10 miles of 90 percent of Americans, the company said.

The new feature is expected to be offered as early as November for the products sold and shipped by its e-commerce-site, followed by in-store purchases in early 2018.

Making it easy for customers is so important to the Bentonville, Arkansas, retailer that in December, some items no longer wanted will not even have to be returned. The new service will be called Mobile Express Returns. It will initially be available for household items like shampoo but will eventually expand to other items over time.

An online retail consultant said that consumers usually consider returning bought items to stores to be a bother, though it is often necessary.

The changes will be implemented next month when Wal-Mart rolls returns capabilities out on its app, where customers can begin the returns process.

The returns will take just seconds this time. Other products, including those that can not be reuse by the store once they have been opened or damaged, are expected to be added over time.

Then go to a Walmart and find the Mobile Express Lane at the customer service desk.

"We're combining the accessibility of our stores with eCommerce to provide new and exciting ways for customers to shop", Wal-Mart Stores CEO Doug McMillan said in a statement ahead of the retailer's annual investor meeting. There are plans to offer refunds for certain items completely online. Wall Street is expecting the company to report earnings per share of $4.38 for the fiscal year.
