It has also made an electric concept vehicle of its classic E-type model - but there are no plans so far to put it into production.

To make the transition from gas combustion to full-electric as seamless as possible, Jaguar designed the E-type Zero's battery pack to have the same dimensions and roughly the same weight as the XK engine it replaces.

Based on the 1968 Series 1.5 Roadster, from first glance it looks like a mint condition vintage Jag, but open it up and you'll find an all-electric 220kW motor capable of propelling the vehicle from 0-62mph in just 5.5 seconds.

Taking place at Central Saint Martins, University of the Arts London, the free-to-enter festival is open from Friday 8 September to Sunday 10 September.

Sky's Business Presenter Ian King said: "A lot of people will say that Jaguar Land Rover have come late to the electric vehicle party".

As far as the performance of the automobile is concerned, the sports vehicle can top 0-62 miles per hour just in a matter of approximately 5.5 seconds. It is the first Jaguar vehicle to have zero emissions.

At the moment, the E-Type Zero is a one-off, but if there's real interest we can't see Jaguar resisting the temptation to create more electric E-Types for clients. We believe this provides the optimum driving experience. The decision to use largely off-the-shelf EV gear was a conscious one, as Jaguar is actually pondering offering this reversible electric conversion to customers.

What we do know is that the first fully electric auto will be the Jaguar I-Pace.

That new electric drivetrain all packaged very cleverly to resemble the original vehicle, with the electric motor and reduction gear just behind the battery pack where the gearbox would have gone.

Beyond the I-Pace, other electric vehicles in JLR's range will include an updated version of its classic E-Type and a driverless concept auto known as the Future-Type, which has a steering wheel that communicates with the driver.

While the outside remains largely untouched, Jaguar has given the inside of this E-type Roadster a contemporary makeover to match its electric powertrain.
