Uber drivers caught giving rides during that time will face a fine of more than $2,300 and have their cars impounded for three months, the agency said, according to CNN Philippines.

Following a back-and-forth with regulators, Uber has temporarily shuttered its operations in the Philippines.

On Monday, LTFRB ordered Uber to cease operating its platform for a month following the agency's discovery that it was still accepting new vehicles into its fleet. It blamed "the current predicament" on Uber's "predatory actions".

"The decision of the LTFRB to suspend Uber is both cruel and absurd", said Senator Grace Poe, who heads the upper chamber's transport committee.

Previous year the LTFRB suspended the acceptance and processing of applications for all ride-sharing services, including Uber and Grab, to investigate how to regulate the industry.

The month-long suspension of Uber accreditation has opened new doors for new players as applications for the online transport business continue to pour in.

On Wednesday, Arcade City announced that its app was now available in Apple and Android versions and that it was recruiting and activating drivers across the Philippines.

He added that transport network vehicle services like Uber and Grab are more sophisticated compared to ordinary taxis. Uber suspended its operations the following day, Tuesday.

In the wake of Uber's suspension, rival Grab Philippines said it had set a 1.4x surge cap in the wake of increased demand.

"Now we bring that peer-to-peer model to the Philippines", Arcade City said, adding that new drivers were being recruited.

He told Delgra, "if there's any misunderstanding in the past, that's on us and I apologize for that misunderstanding".

LTFRB has scheduled the hearing on the new appeal next week, August 23.

Last month, 50,000 of Uber's and Grab's vehicles were nearly suspended since they lacked certificates of public conveyance to operate.

"Operating more than 50,000 colorum vehicles sets a risky precedent, and if not stopped would wreck [sic] havoc to the country's transport plans and programs, specifically the Modernization Program, which aims to enhance transport service and uplift the lives of transport workers", it said.

The suspension yesterday led to an outpouring of anger by Filipinos on social media. Anything you need from us, we're gonna do it.
