CMT will pay tribute to the legendary Glen Campbell with a new, half-hour special set to premiere Thursday morning. To recall, the legendary musician started to become known in 1975 through his hit single, "Rhinestone Cowboy".

In total, Glen Campbell has released 70 albums during his 60-year career and sold 45 million albums in the world.

"I've never met a more talented person in all the years we have been in the music business and never had a better time on tour than the time spent with Glen", Love wrote. Rejecting the shame and secrecy that sometimes attend Alzheimer's, Campbell turned into an advocate for the disease and was staunchly public about his affliction; audiences cheered him even as he struggled to remember his lyrics on stage. Glen Campbell, one of the most famous singers of the genre, died on Tuesday at the age of 81 in Nashville. In the mid-sixties, he went on tour with the Beach Boys after Brian Wilson gave up touring following a 1964 nervous breakdown.

Reflecting on Campbell's session work, Jimmy declared, "I think he's one of the great largely unknown influences on American pop music in the '60s, because he played on so many significant records..." Campbell went on to play guitar on the Beach Boys' platinum record Pet Sounds.

In the film, former President Bill Clinton saluted Campbell's actions, saying his advocacy on behalf of those with Alzheimer's might ultimately outstrip his contributions to music as his most lasting legacy.

He hosted his own television show - The Glen Campbell Goodtime Hour - from 1969 to 1972 and took his chiselled good looks to Hollywood. The donations will benefit the Glen Campbell Memorial Fund.

Although the name might not ring a bell to a lot of modern-day music fans, Webb was the man who wrote some of Campbell's biggest hits as a "crossover country" artist, including "By the Time I Get to Phoenix" and "Wichita Lineman". "I miss you already", commented soberly Miley Cyrus.

Heartbreaking footage shows from 2012 shows Campbell recording his last song, which was featured in the documentary, Glen Campbell: I'll Be Me.
