Trump Pushes Back Against Mitch McConnell's Criticism Of 'Excessive Expectations'

The president is clearly not happy with a recent speech McConnell delivered in which he criticized Trump for his apparent lack of understanding of the democratic process and the "complexity of legislature".

Congressional Republicans are attempting to pivot away from Obamacare repeal toward tax reform.

"You can do it!" the President said, acknowledging the important position of McConnell, as a key leader of the Trump agenda in the Congress.

Trump followed that with another tweet specifically mentioning McConnell's criticism: "Senator Mitch McConnell said I had 'excessive expectations, ' but I don't think so". It was a swing and miss to be sure, but not, as far as I can tell, as a result of anything McConnell left on the field - which is the clear implication in Trump and Scavino's tweets. "Obviously there's some frustration".

Brooks was critical of Trump a year ago during the presidential campaign, pointing to his "serial adultery", and, more recently, the congressman slammed the president for his "public waterboarding" of Sessions on Twitter.

"The leader has spoken repeatedly about the path forward regarding Obamacare repeal on the Senate floor, at media availabilities multiple times and in Kentucky", said spokeswoman Antonia Ferrier in an email. Trump tweeted, referring to the longtime GOP promise to overturn the Affordable Care Act.

The public division between the president and a leading member of his party comes as the Senate faces a series of deadlines - the most pressing being a bill to keep the government funded and legislation to raise the nation's debt ceiling.

The dueling narratives about why the Obamacare repeal died (at least for now) despite harsh political rhetoric about the law over the past seven years highlight the fractures in the Republican Party.

"And the rest? They are phony baloney", Dobbs said, introducing a new slogan: "Ditch Mitch". "I think it would be helpful if the president was a little more on message". Trump is to blame because he never led on health care.

Trump has failed to notch up a major legislative win since taking office in January, although Republicans control both the Senate and House of Representatives.

He also said, "Mitch, get back to work and put Repeal & Replace, Tax Reform & Cuts and a great Infrastructure Bill on my desk for signing".

"Why not done?" Trump wrote.
