"Totalling we think about a grand total of $1.7 million by age 80", said Scott Hennig. At some point in your life it's time to move on and she has. She was a sharp critic of the NDP government and was rewarded with the designation of deputy premier along with the education portfolio when she was named to cabinet after the Liberals first victory in 2001.

"She's been a great leader and a good friend", he said.

"Together, we have achieved so much - winning a comeback election victory that nearly nobody thought possible, positioning British Columbia firmly as Canada's leading economy, and laying a strong foundation for future generations to achieve their dreams here", she said.

"It was a shock, yes, but at the same time I would say not totally unexpected", said Larson, noting that in recent weeks the former B.C. premier has talked more about family and personal obligations.

"I think all of these things confronted her and she decided it would be to announce early, rather than hang on". The NDP with 41 seats and the Greens with three were able to forge an alliance that led to the NDP forming government, ending the Liberals' 16-year reign.

"Many ignorant opinions - only a few know CC [Christy Clark] - she is a strong, intelligent, compassionate woman who chose party & province over self", he wrote.

Fort Langley-Aldergrove MLA Rich Coleman is now the interim leader of the opposition BC Liberals after Christy Clark announced her resignation.

Sometime within the next six months West Kelowna voters will take to the polls for the fourth time in less than five years. Her leadership and willingness to work across party lines on this vital issue has made universities and colleges across this province safer for our students - and for this I am grateful.

Liberal caucus members praised Ms. Clark on Friday, but the party will now face the necessity of picking a new leader to face the BC NDP government. This experience illustrated what we can achieve when members of this house work together.

Former B.C. Liberal MLA Bill Bennett described Clark's resignation as a loss for both the party and the province, strongly dismissing any suggestion the party forced her out.

While the leadership campaign and convention details get sorted out by the party executive, the BC Liberals are staying on task with their opposition duties, Shypitka said.

She thanked her supporters, saying the party will need them in the coming months and years. "I don't plan on stepping down".

In a statement, BC Liberal Party President Sharon White called Clark "fierce, tireless and immensely generous in building one of the strongest political parties in the country". Penticton MLA Dan Ashton is to his immediate left.
