Three US Marines have been missing since what the Marine Corps calls a "mishap" with an MV-22 aircraft.

Benjamin Cross is from Bethel, said his brother, Ryan Cross.

Onodera said Japan urged Washington to disclose information about the accident, investigate what caused it and take measures to prevent such an accident from happening again. After more than 24 hours of searching for those three Marines, the service announced Sunday morning that it was suspending rescue operations and shifting to recovery efforts.

The three Marines lost in the crash have yet to be identified.

"The Australian Defence Force has commenced its support to US-led recovery operations following the MV-22 Osprey incident in Shoalwater Bay on Saturday", according to a statement by Payne.

The Osprey ditched into the water off the Queensland coast during a training exercise on Saturday afternoon, 23 of the 26 crew members on board were rescued.

An Australian navy dive team plans to start the process of recovering the plane Monday night, the U.S. Marine base Camp Butler in Japan said in a statement. It's not clear if recovery teams have yet located the remains of the fallen.

Small boats and aircraft from the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit and Bonhomme Richard Expeditionary Strike Group conducted the search, the Marine Corps said. The deck of the USS Green Bay was damaged in the incident.

"The Australian forces volunteered their help before we could even ask, demonstrating the deep ties and enduring nature of the alliance between our two countries", Davis said. They have been involved in a series of crashes in recent years. Their Osprey aircraft crashed into the sea, off the coast of Australia, while trying to land.

The joint military exercise involved more than 30,000 us and Australian personnel, the Australian Defense Department said. And in January, three USA soldiers were wounded in the "hard landing" of an Osprey in Yemen.
