An early-morning attack against one of Venezuelas main garrisons ended Sunday with one of the suspected attackers killed, seven more arrested and others escaping with stolen military weapons, as unrest intensifies in Venezuela after four months of continuous anti-government protests.

"These attacks, planned by delirious minds in Miami, only strengthen the morale of our armed forces and the Bolivarian people", tweeted Socialist Party official Elias Jaua.

Assembly delegates later swore in as her replacement Ombudsman Tarek William Saab, who was recently sanctioned by the Trump administration for failing to protect protesters from abuses in his role as the nation's top human rights official.

Even as the all-powerful constitutional assembly moved quickly against Ortega, there were signs it may be rethinking about extending its crackdown.

Rear Admiral Remigio Ceballos, head of the military's strategic operational command, said on Twitter.

Another high-profile dissident, 62-year-old Antonio Ledezma was released back to house arrest Friday after being hauled away the same day as Lopez. He returned home again Saturday.

The assembly was seated despite strong criticism from the USA, other countries and the Venezuelan opposition, which fear that it will be a tool for imposing dictatorship. Supporters say it will pacify a country rocked by violent protests.

Authorities said the men were mercenaries working for a USA -backed opposition to bring down almost two decades of Socialism in oil-rich Venezuela, raising the specter of a further government crackdown on dissent in coming days. The company who provided the vote counting system, however, said that the government inflated the total turnout by at least one million people.

It also has the power to dissolve the opposition-controlled National Assembly.

But Venezuelan authorities said they had suppressed a military rebellion near the central city of Valencia.

The opposition has also defied a ban on public protests, and denounced the recent election in the country as a power grab by President Maduro. "The only thing it's doing is destroying itself and committing suicide".

The opposition Democratic Unity Roundtable (MUD) as well as some countries and regional blocs, including the United States, Mexico, Colombia and the European Union, have refused to recognize the ANC.

The Brazilian Foreign Ministry calls Luisa Ortega Diaz's ouster "arbitrary and illegal".

"The global community should not be wrong about Venezuela". Venezuela's socialist party (PSUV) leaded by Hugo Chávez implemented an anti-capitalist revolution ("La Revolución Bolivariana") when it came to power in 1999, and since then the party has destroyed Venezuela's democracy up to the point of emulating totalitarian governments such as Bashar al-Assad's in Syria, Kim Jong-un's in North Korea, and Robert Mugabe's in Zimbabwe. "Always in peace", Maduro said at a press conference in Caracas.
