Police said in a statement the 20-year-old Briton had arrived in Milan on July 10 for an alleged photo shooting arranged through her agent.

"Fantasist or not, what is clear is that he is a very risky man who drugged his victim as soon as she was kidnapped and put her inside a large travel bag in the boot of a auto", Milan deputy prosecutor Paolo Storari told a press conference.

A 30-year-old Polish man, said to be a resident in Britain, was arrested on July 18 on suspicion of kidnap and extortion, state police said.

The kidnapper used an encrypted account and then asked the model's agent for $300,000 to stop her from being sold in auction.

A UK-based modelling agency sent the woman to the "photoshoot", and once she arrived, was promptly injected with the powerful anaesthesia Ketamine, handcuffed, and stuffed into a suitcase with a pillow case over her head, according to the report.

At one point, according to the Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera, the woman was told she could be freed upon payment of €50,000 euros (around £45,000).

Police are now working to identify Herba's accomplices and established what happened to the woman while she was help captive.

NWS puts most of state under Flash Flood Watch through Friday evening
Storm chances start to drop off this weekend; even still, there's the risk for pockets of heavy rain and flooding concerns. Similar rainfall is expected throughout the state, but Baltimore and Washington, D.C., could get five or more inches.

Authorities said the kidnappers were going to release her "because she had a 2-year-old child" and their "rules exclude kidnapping mothers".

Prosecutors in Italy said Herba was linked to the Black Death criminal organisation that works on the dark web. Italian authorities believe that no ransom was paid for her release.

Officers are now investigating the incident after the man was captured with the model.

Investigators believe the man had already organised a number of online auctions for trafficked women - however it is unclear whether the victims were real or not.

The Foreign Office said it was providing support to a British woman.

The police investigation into the network is ongoing.
