State media say the Torch Tower which is one of the tallest buildings in the world is now engulfed in flames with burning debris falling down on to the streets.

Dubai Police and Civil Defense quickly evacuated the structure, and firefighters brought the flames under control within about two hours, officials of the United Arab Emirates said.

The tower was evacuated and no injuries were reported, authorities said.

Above are the visuals of the Dubai Torch Tower On fire.

"The fire was very strong at that time, about 1 a.m".

A devastating tower fire in London in June killed at least 80 people and prompted Britain to order more thorough testing on the cladding systems of its towers. They said we may be able to get back into the building at 7.30pm tonight, but that looks doubtful. It is unclear how the fire started.

The previous blaze broke out at 2am on 21 February 2015 and was started by a grill placed on one of the tower's balconies. One person who lives in the Tower said, "Fire happened around at 1 am, we all are sleeping, for the fire alarm we all woke up".

This is the second time that the tower - believed to be the fifth tallest residential building in the world - has caught fire in the last two years.

On Friday morning, police vehicles were still parked in front of the residential tower of 79-storeys.

The Torch is located in the city's popular Marina neighbourhood.

However, the skyscraper remained closed to residents, some of whom were moved to a nearby and even taller residential tower while others chose to stay with friends.

About 70 percent of the high-rise buildings in the United Arab Emirates were constructed with the flammable panels, The National reported in 2012.

In August 2016, a fire swept through a 28-storey building under construction in the UAE capital, Abu Dhabi, injuring 13 people, including 10 emergency service personnel.
