There are plenty of big days coming up as the Vegas Golden Knights' expansion draft rapidly approaches, but Saturday is one of the biggest so far. One of the teams that has reportedly shipped their first-rounder to Vegas is the Columbus Blue Jackets.

Teams have until Saturday at 5 p.m. ET to submit a list of players protected from exposure to the Golden Knights - either seven forwards, three defencemen and one goaltender or eight skaters and a goalie.

According to a report last month from Jeremy Rutherford of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, the Blues have chose to protect seven forwards, three defensemen and a goalie. "Still some time between now and tomorrow when we have to submit our list, so things can change between now and then", Wilson said on Friday.

For the Washington Capitals, there was no suspense on Sunday morning, as The Post reported their protection list on Saturday afternoon.

The NHL announced on Sunday the available and protected lists for the 30 teams who will provide players to the Golden Knights.

"People have identified people on other clubs they'd like to have", McPhee said. In exchange, McPhee was intent on stockpiling draft picks to help spur the franchise's growth through youth. That leaves Kevin Klein as the single necessary blueliner exposed, even as the 32-year-old with a $2.9 million cap hit for next year contemplates retirement.

The best-case scenario for the Hurricanes is to get their number of National Hockey League goalies down to two by encouraging Vegas or another team to take on Ward or Lack.

The 2017 NHL Expansion Draft will take place Wednesday as the Las Vegas Golden Knights begin to fill out their roster.

Among those left unprotected, and available to the Golden Knights in the draft, were goalies Cam Ward and Eddie Lack, forwards Lee Stempniak and Joakim Nordstrom, and defenseman Klas Dahlbeck.

The Golden Knights must select one player from each presently existing team.

Some reports have trickled out, and there have been musings from well-connected media members that Vegas may already have as many as three first-round picks in its back pocket.

"I don't think this process is any different than, say, a free agency process or a trade deadline process where there's a lot of talk leading up to the anointed hour and then activity happens". He'll be the protected goalie, putting Cam Ward and Eddie Lack on the expansion list. Their coach, Gerard Gallant, was sacked by the Panthers just 22 games into the 2016-2017 season after leading the team to a club record 47 wins and 103 points in 2015-2016.

Andy Andreoff, left wing: Eligible to become a restricted free agent July 1. Youngsters Connor McDavid and Darnell Nurse don't meet the minimum pro experience criteria, so they're automatically protected and don't need to be exposed.
