Bill Cosby faces retrial on sexual assault charges

Jurors returned to court on Saturday after more than 50 hours of deliberations, telling the judge that they remained "hopelessly deadlocked" on all counts with no expectation that a verdict could be reached by further deliberations. The jury could not reach a unanimous decision after deliberations that lasted six days.
Former federal prosecutor David Weinstein said Cosby's celebrity nearly certainly played a role in the jury's deliberations, perhaps to convince "two or three jurors that it's impossible to convict Dr. Huxtable, to convict Fat Albert. that he couldn't have done this terrible thing".
In a February 17, 2005, news release, former District Attorney Bruce Castor Jr. said no criminal charges were forthcoming but he would "reconsider" the decision "should the need arise", according to the affidavit.
On behalf of Andrea Constand and ourselves, we would like to thank the dedicated individuals of the Montgomery County District Attorney's Office in particular Kevin Steele, Kristen Feden and Stewart Ryan and the many police officers and detectives who worked on this case, in particular Rich Schaffer, Jim Reape and Mike Shade. "Those of us who came forward to speak our collective truth about what he did to us owe a debt of gratitude to Andrea Constand for her leadership and courage in demanding justice".
Her case was initially settled by a civil suit but re-opened in 2015, when prosecutors claimed that new evidence had come to light.

I also looked at Cosby and saw a man who in some ways is still one lucky guy - still supported by his wife of 54 years, Camille, and to a remarkable extent, spared the national avalanche of attention that his trial would normally have attracted by all the high drama surrounding the self-proclaimed p_-grabber in the White House.

About twice as many counter-protesters marshaled across the street. "We were born in the United States and we're going to stay". Mike Lacey of Harrisburg protested the anti-Sharia march, although he wasn't dressed in black like most other participants.
Other Cosby supporters who stood in a drenching rain shouted, "Happy Father's Day, Bill" and "There's no evidence, you must acquit". "Heinously and exploitatively ambitious", the statement said. But prosecutors immediately said they would seek a second trial, which O'Neill suggested could start within four months.
In Cosby's case, that could have involved the more than 60 other women who have accused him of assaults dating to the 1960s. She woke up the next morning in his home with her sweater bunched up and her bra undone, the affidavit says. She also criticized the judge, the accuser's lawyers and the media. "She spent a lot more time trying to forget what happened than trying to remember that night".
"We are confident that these proceedings have given a voice to the many victims who felt powerless and silenced", the statement reads.
The "big problem" with the trial was the inability of several other accusers to testify, Allred said. Johnson alleged that Cosby drugged and molested her at a Los Angeles hotel bungalow in 1996.
Constand is ready to go to trial again, said her lawyer, Dolores Troiani.
O'Neill and Cosby's lead lawyer, Brian McMonagle, clashed on Friday, with the defense attorney complaining that the jury was essentially getting a replay of the entire trial. Cosby has denied all of the accusations.
