Clippers make plans to build arena near Inglewood stadium project

Hilda Schwartz | 16 June, 2017, 06:23

Vincent Bonsignore of the Los Angeles Daily News reports on Wednesday that the Clippers are nearing an exclusive negotiating agreement with the city of Inglewood to build a new arena.

The Clippers now share the Staples Center with the Los Angeles Lakers, the NHL's Los Angeles Kings and the WNBA's Los Angeles Sparks.

US oil production seen thwarting OPEC effort to boost prices
The dilemma facing the Saudis is encapsulated by China , the world's largest crude oil importer and the Saudis biggest customer. Benchmark Brent crude settled 43 cents higher at $48.72 a barrel while USA light crude settled up 38 cents to $46.46 a barrel.

Since Steve Ballmer bought the Clippers, he has wanted something his predecessor Donald Sterling never much cared about - getting out from under the shadow of the Los Angeles Lakers. With Seattle approving renovations for the Key Arena in order to lure an National Basketball Association or NHL team, the Clippers would be an ideal fit if Ballmer can't get the arena built. Kroenke's plans call for retail and residential (and possibly some office space) around the stadium, and a new arena to house the Clippers and other events certainly would fit in with that model. The Clippers aren't expected to break ground on a new arena anytime soon. The old Forum is right next to the Rams stadium project meaning Inglewood would have two state of the art arenas in the same city.

In 2013 the Clippers signed an extension to play in STAPLES for 10 more years. Ballmer became agitated with the arrangement fairly early in his ownership, sources said. The front of the arena is littered with statues honoring great Lakers and Kings players from Magic Johnson to Wayne Gretzky. It is now one of the premier concert destinations in Los Angeles.
