Intel's new CPU has a insane 18 cores

Devin Neal | 01 June, 2017, 01:37

With this new upgraded technology, Intel chips can identify two top-performing cores as the optimal cores and direct critical workloads to them for an overall jump in performance.

The most expensive chip in the new lineup is the Core i9 Extreme Edition, which is the first consumer desktop CPU with 18 cores and 36 threads. All the X series processors are designed for motherboard with X299 chipset.

The new "Core X" family of desktop processors at Computex offers even more powerful versions of its existing Core i5 and Core i7 models, along with a new, top-of-the-line Core i9 line for those who want even more firepower.

As far as the pricing of the Core X processors is concerned, the Core X family would start with Core i5-7640X processor that would cost $242.

Intel also introduced three i7 Core X variants - the 4-core/8-thread i7-7740X ($339), the 6-core/12-thread i7-7800x ($389) and the 8-core/16-thread i7-7820X ($599). It will also be used as a marketing tool, enabling Intel to boast that it has the most powerful consumer CPU on the market - for now, at least.

These new chips include Intel's updated Turbo Boost 3.0, which allows the CPUs to temporarily increase their power for short bursts without overheating.

Nadal reaches 3rd round at French Open
Muguruza has endured a hard 2017 and again found herself in trouble after falling a set and a break behind against the Estonian. Nadal outclassed Dutchman Robin Haase 6-1 6-4 6-3, while Djokovic defeated Portugal's Joao Sousa 6-1 6-4 6-3 on Wednesday.

Intel has announced new high-performance chips which makes them exclusive to high performance gaming devices or PCs aimed at professionals.

All of the i9 chips feature base clock speeds of 3.3GHz, reaching up to 4.3GHz dual-core speeds with Turbo Boost 2.0 and 4.5GHz with Turbo Boost 3.0.

Intel just announced a new range of Core X desktop processors at an event today.

There's a new Core i5 in the i5-7640X, the lowest end in the series but it's no lightweight.

Intel's Core X processing chips are set to release soon, within the 2nd quarter of this year.

At a time where 4 cored processors on PC are considered a standard, an 18 cored processor would change the game completely. The company claims, according to the latest test results, that their next generation processors now have a performance of around 30% than current processors based on the Kaby Lake architecture. AMD, not to be outdone, then released a 16-core Threadripper CPU, to which Intel has a big, if predictable, response: 18 cores and 36 threads; shoot the works.
