The Income Tax Department on Tuesday conducted raids at 22 places in and around Delhi in connection with an alleged "benami" property case involving RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav and his family, triggering calls by the opposition for Chief Minister Nitish Kumar to end his party's alliance with the RJD and call for fresh elections. Is it an Alliance to protect the corrupt, to give a cover to the rank corruption of its constituents?

While Lalu Prasad put up a fearless face saying he will continue to fight against "fascist forces" and was "not scared of empty threats", Chidambaram reacted to the CBI raids asking whether he should "stop writing against the Government".

Officials said the department began raiding the premises of some prominent businessmen and real estate agents in Delhi, Gurgaon, Rewari and few others since early morning.

The leader who himself is allegedly found to have been talking to dreaded criminal languishing in jail, said "the country is not safe in BJP hands as it is hell-bent on dividing society and create hatred among different communities to continue in power at all cost".

On the Centre not fulfilling its promise of giving Rs 1.25 lakh crore special package for Bihar's development, he said that Nitish Kumar government was making such allegations to deflect people's attention to hide its failures.

Rashtriya Janta Dal chief Lalu Prasad Yadav vented his anger on the Union Government through his Twitter handle.

The RJD chief took a dig at BJP by congratulating the saffron party on "forging a new alliance" and asserted that he will keep fighting against "fascist forces" till the last breath. Officials said a team of 100 I-T officials and policemen were carrying out the searches.

Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on Tuesday defended searches at the homes of his predecessor P Chidambaram and his son as also RJD chief Lalu Prasad, saying the day of reckoning has come for many and they will be held accountable for their misdeeds. "I am not scared of the BJP letting loose the Government machinery on me", he wrote on the microblogging website Twitter. "We know Hanuman used to be loyal to Lord Ram and never asked questions", he said. The RJD chief, facing attack from the BJP for amassing huge wealth through dubious means, accused the Modi-led central government of failing to address issues of unemployment, national security, economic stability and repatriation of black money from foreign shores.Prasad said the BJP's big claim of improving internal security was a farce.

Following the IT raids, Sushil Kumar Modi told the media in Patna that his stand was "vindicated".

Lalu Prasad's daughter is alleged to have bought land worth Rs100 crore for just Rs1 crore.

Some days before BJP suspected Lalu Prasad and his families of being convoluted in unethical land transactions.

The land transactions are from the time when Lalu Prasad was the Railway Minister in the UPA government said, Ravi Shankar Prasad.
