Flooding is the most common and widespread of all weather-related natural disasters, according to the National Weather Service, and flash flooding is one of the most common.

Light rain may begin falling in some areas as soon as Saturday morning and strong winds are expected to sweep through the region Saturday afternoon, according to the National Weather Service.

As of 4 p.m. today, 1.83 inches of rain fell at Fort Wayne International Airport, beating the record of 1.44 inches set in 1990, Nathan Marsili, meteorologist, said.

Friday evening the rain will start tapering off, but there's still a chance for showers hanging around on Saturday.

The National Weather Service does not like to mince words when it issues a warning like this-the agency urges residents living along streams and creeks to "take immediate precautions to protect life and property". Everything you need to know is on the flyer below, but keep in mind that the hours from 9:00 a.m.to 1:45 p.m.is for school classes with reservations.

The weather service also has a flash flood warning in place for counties south and west of Arkansas' capital city.

Many counties have placed high-water signs in areas that are likely to experience flooding.

After days of heavy rainfall across much of central IN, many areas are experiencing flooding on roadways and parking lots. More storms could erupt during the afternoon, and there's an outside chance that they turn severe (see discussion below) with a damaging wind and hail threat, including the possibility of an isolated tornado. Rain will linger Friday morning, and it will be windy and cooler with high temperatures in the mid 70s.

The service said the Kennebec River at Augusta and Skowhegan may get to near flood stage late Sunday or early Monday.

Sunday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 38.

Saturday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 48.
