Gas prices rise as demand increases AAA Michigan: Statewide average gas prices fall 6 cents

The national average is at its highest price this year and has now increased for 20 consecutive days. The national average has increased 11 cents during the past month and was 29 cents higher than one year ago.

Gas prices are still climbing in northern New England.

The nation's cheapest gasoline prices could be found in SC, where prices averaged $2.12 per gallon. At the close of last week's formal trading session on the NYMEX, West Texas Intermediate was up seven cents to settle at $53.18 per barrel. Pump prices in 43 states and Washington D.C. have moved higher over the last week.

Gasoline prices in Valdosta continued their upward climb over the last week.

Across the Williamsburg area and Hampton Roads, gas prices average $2.24 per gallon, and in Virginia, $2.23, three cents higher than last week, 14 cents higher than in March and 29 cents higher than at this time past year, according to AAA Tidewater.

Automakers say they may be unable to meet those targets and regulators have suggested they might be reduced or postponed. Considering the current technologies included in most vehicles these days, the label really isn't that far-fetched.

The cheapest gas in our area right now is $2.04 at the Costco off Cloud Springs Road and the Sam's Club on Lee Highway.

AAA Northeast reports that self-serve, regular is selling for an average of $2.28 per gallon.

Prices for gas in Flint are right around $2.40 while Ann Arbor is at $2.51.

Elsewhere, the national average rose 1.1 cents to $2.40 per gallon. Compared to one year ago, four states in this region are experiencing some of the country's biggest year-over-year price jumps: Washington (58 cents), Alaska (57 cents), OR (54 cents) and Hawaii (45 cents).

Gasoline prices in Rhode Island are up six cents this week and eight cents over the past two weeks now, according to AAA Northeast.
