"Memphis Grizzlies head coach David Fizdale has been fined $30,000 for public criticism of the officiating, it was announced [on Wednesday] by Kiki VanDeWeghe, Executive Vice President, Basketball Operations".
"It's unfortunate that I've got a guy like (point guard) Mike Conley that in his whole career has got zero technical fouls and just can not seem to get the proper respect from the officials that he deserves", Fizdale fumed on Monday.
The Spurs took 32 free throws, and Kawshi Leonard received more than then entire Grizzlies team combined - hitting 19-for-19.
Memphis shot only 15 free throws despite attempting 35 shots in the paint, compared to San Antonio's 32 free throw attempts. I'm not a numbers guy, but that doesn't seem to add up. "I know Pops got pedigree and I'm a young rookie, but they're not gone rook us like that". Over the course of the 83 seconds, Fizdale never said that the Grizzlies lost the game because of the officiating; he stated his team wasn't given a chance, but never did he explicitly declare that the contest was lost because of the officials.
Free throws will be a major focal point in Game 3 on Thursday.

The Spurs went to the charity stripe 23 times in the first two quarters, making 22, them, while Memphis was just 5 of 6 on free throws, a 17-point difference in a 19-point game. IN may bring Al Jefferson, who did not play in either of the first two games, off the bench to give the Pacers more size to help with that.
Conley: "As far as getting to the free throw line, nah". You have to get your team going, and you do it whichever way is necessary, I guess.
There's also a little more to it than how often a team gets to the line, and that's how often a team sends its opponent there. The text messages. Obviously, my wife is big into social media, so I get a lot of the social media craziness.
At one point in the game it appeared the Grizzlies were going to come back.
That kind of confidence in your players goes a long way in the locker room. "We've got good kids who work hard, and they're in there crying their eyes out because some guys don't understand the game". We have a lot of weapons on the team, a lot of guys that can make plays and knock down shots.
