The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency says it has no current plan to close its Region 5 branch office in Chicago, and calls a Chicago Sun-Times newspaper story reporting the possibility an "unsubstantiated rumor".

"If true, this report is shocking and I would strongly oppose the closing of the Region 5 office", Upton said in a prepared statement Monday, April 17.

The EPA's job is not to protect Scott Pruitt's friends in the oil and gas industry-it's to protect the health and safety of Americans, based on science.

Brooks also cited concerns about rumors the administration also might be considering eliminating two of EPA's regional offices, including the Region 5 office that now is overseeing cleanup efforts in East Chicago.

And by the way, those new energy sources fit much better with the mandate of the Environmental Protection Agency that Mr. Pruitt is charged with leading.

Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Scott Pruitt has told oil and gas industry leaders that the agency will reconsider its methane emissions rule following a petition from industry leaders, a move decried by environmentalists.

Madrid star Modric wants same atmosphere for Clasico after Champions League success
Ramos, so used to being Madrid's hero, turned villain when he shinned the ball into his own net after a scramble in the area. The Brazilian, Asensio, Cristiano, with his three goals (that's 100 in the Champions League now) were the men of the match.

Meanwhile, the Trump administration's mission is to curtail EPA's workforce by 25 percent and cut its budget down to $5.7 billion. Environmental groups, including the Natural Resources Defense Council, want government officials to look at water quality citywide.

He said next steps were discussed, but he did not provide details and refused to take questions.

"He categorically denied that they had any plans to do that", said Thomas Frank, one of five East Chicago residents who met with Pruitt on Wednesday.

"Pruitt, "made commitments that we would have it right", Democratic Senator Joe Donnelly said".

"All attempts to defund EPA's EJ program should not only be stopped, but support for this long-underfunded program must be exponentially increased" to avoid future cases of toxic contamination similar to what occurred in East Chicago, Flint, Michigan, and Eight Mile, Alabama, the NAACP said in its list of demands. Officials say two dozen families remain at the 45-year-old complex, which was built on a site once occupied by a lead-products factory.

The EPA is already working with limited resources, and significant cuts in Chicago would likely prevent the agency from new testing in Pilsen, an industrious neighborhood that has been home to lead paint factories, brass smelters, coal plants and today, a metal shredder, Hernandez said. The Agency's press release quoted Pruitt saying: "I'm focused on getting EPA back to the basics of protecting human health and the environment, and one of my top priorities is delivering real results for the people of East Chicago'".
