Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner Officially File for Divorce

Madeline Patrick | 14 April, 2017, 19:05

Jennifer Garner has officially filed for divorce from Ben Affleck. Both are asking for joint legal and physical custody of their three children and they're leaving the spousal support piece of the puzzle open so that the judge can decide before the case is settled.

The couple who were married for ten years announced in 2015 they were splitting, amongst rumours Affleck had been unfaithful.

Together, Garner filed a divorce petition and Affleck filed a response. The couple has been separated since June 30, 2015, leading some to believe there was still hope for reconciliation. A source added, "They always planned to divorce despite what people said".

At a Times Talk in New York City in December to promote his film "Live by Night", Affleck called his estranged wife the "world's greatest mom". Garner and Affleck's date of separation was listed as "to be determined".

In a previous interview, Garner said the "nanny" issue wasn't a big deal to her because they chose to break up long before the story was all over the tabloids. There was no catalyst, it was just time.

Ben has had nothing but nice things to say about the mum of kids. But they haven't yet decided on a financial agreement. We're doing our very best and we're putting our kids first, and that's how we're focusing on our day-to-day lives.

Several media outlets reported in June that year that the 44-year-old actor was having a relationship with the children's nanny, Christine Ouzounian. While spending time with his kids, Affleck still wore his wedding ring and did regular dad-children activities, and even bought a puppy. But, when it does work smoothly, like it appears to be with Garner and Affleck, that's the best outcome you could hope for after something as hard as a divorce.
