Trump tells newspaper Obama aide might have broken the law

She would not say whether she asked for names to be unmasked, or whether she sought intelligence reports on Trump's associates.

"I think it's going to be the biggest story", the president said.

He continued,"It's such an important story for our country and the world".

"I think it's going to be the biggest story", Mr. Trump said in an interview with the New York Times.

Questioned by reporters, Rice dodged the question.

Last month, House Intelligence Chairman Devin Nunes, R-Calif., made waves when he announced that the communications of Trump transition team members had been "incidentally" swept up by US intelligence agencies while they were conducting legal foreign surveillance.

US President Donald Trump accused an official of the Obama administration of committing a crime by asking to "unmask" the names of Trump's associates in intelligence documents, media reports said.

Lebanon's army does not enter Palestinian refugee camps, where security is managed by joint committees of Palestinian factions. Gunfire and explosions were heard on Sunday night, but Lebanese media said the camp appeared calm on Monday.

Rice reportedly asked to unmask the identities of people affiliated with the Trump campaign and transition "on dozens of occasions", according to the Bloomberg report.

Leaking classified information can be a criminal offense, which Rice denied doing - "I leaked nothing to nobody", she told MSNBC. She said "The allegation is that somehow Obama administration officials utilized intelligence for political purposes. I leaked nothing to nobody", she told MSNBC's Andrea Mitchell.

On Wednesday, House Speaker Paul Ryan said the House intelligence committee investigation - one of three looking into Russia's role in the 2016 election- was back on track, and Republicans and Democrats have agreed on the witnesses to be called. Rice called herself "shocked" when she saw Trump's post on Twitter that said Obama had "wiretapped" him - "It wasn't typical of the way presidents treat their predecessors", she said. But rather than attempt to fight them and carry on with the Russian Federation investigation, Nunes said he would recuse himself from that process while staying on as chairman of the full committee.

Still, the White House has appeared to find other ways to promote the idea that Obama officials were conducting improper surveillance of Trump's team. Some of the names of the Americans involved may have been "unmasked" - revealed within secret channels so senior leaders with the appropriate clearances could see them.

House Intelligence Committee Chairman Devin Nunes (R-Calif.) first suggested that he had seen intelligence reports that contained the identities of Trump associates, including some where the names were masked but were easily identifiable.

In her interview, Rice said the volume of intelligence reports that she saw about Russia's attempts to influence the USA presidential election increased after Obama requested an intelligence assessment of Moscow's interference.
