Apple now appears intent on focusing its developmental resources on the Pro lineup that is targeting the enterprise (support for Apple Pencil and Smart Keyboard are still reserved for Pro models).

Apple has historically discounted its older-generation iPad models to service lower price points. According to IDC, tablet shipments fell 20 percent to 53 million worldwide in the final three months of 2016, compared with the same period in 2015.

The (new) iPad is basically a marginally updated Air in some ways for a lower price, sitting now at a sub-$500 starting price of $469 for the 32GB model with WiFi, while the WiFi plus 4G option ranges from $669 for 32GB. It retains a 9.7-inch screen, but gains a little weight and thickness.

In effect, Apple is releasing a cheaper-to-build iPad Air 2 that'll be able to effectively (and profitably) allow Apple to address the $329 (32 GB) and $429 (64 GB) price points. Apple is eliminating the 32-gigabyte model, which used to sell for $399.

Twitter was pretty excited about Apple's new red iPhone.

Clips will be available on the App Store for free beginning in April. Also available starting Friday will be the 32GB/128GB Apple iPhone SE.

Clips lets users create multi-clip videos on iPhone or iPad without timelines, tracks or complicated editing tools.

Nearly exactly a year ago, I noted that the iPhone SE represented a major strategic shift for Apple while acknowledging some potential implications for the iPad. Those are for new phones; used ones, as you'd expect, are going for even less.

Apple last month launched its biggest iPad advertising campaign in three years, aiming the iPad Pro at college students and adults in ads during the NCAA college-basketball tournament, National Basketball Association games, and the television shows "The Walking Dead" and "This Is Us". Unit sales of iPads fell 19 percent from the previous year. The Apple-designed A9 chip with 64-bit desktop-class architecture delivers fast processing and graphics performance for apps and games, while maintaining the same all-day battery life1 customers have come to expect from iPad.
