Spieth's Masters aura is back, but three-fold question remains

The fearless gleam. The laser focus.

The last time he played Amen Corner in competition, Spieth lobbed two balls into the water that cost him his lead, and eventually the green jacket, to Danny Willet.

Then, poof, Spieth's afternoon unraveled - on the same back-nine and in a similar manner in which it fell apart during the final round of last year's Masters, when he lost a five-shot lead.

That's when Dallas' Spieth learned that Johnson, the world's No. 1-ranked player, had been unable to start his round after falling on stairs Wednesday night.

Do the math. "I just didn't really feel comfortable over the tee shot", explained the former U.S. Amateur champion after signing for a 71 concluded by a disappointing double-bogey 6.

Spieth was in a 41st-place tie after the first round.

And, to make matters even worse, this isn't the first time such pain has been inflicted upon Spieth by the demanding Augusta National layout.

Scotland's minister, a Trump critic, says she would meet him
Scottish voters rejected independence in a 2014 referendum that Sturgeon's Scottish National Party called a once-in-a-generation vote.

Spieth immediately took advantage of that cushion, making a birdie on the next hole and a tough par putt at No. 18 to limit the damage and post a 3-over-par 75. That left no doubt that Masters Jordan was back.

Asked about the 15th, Spieth added: "You think of it as a birdie hole and unfortunately I still thought of it as a birdie hole today and it really isn't when you lay up. And it's very difficult when it's this gusty, too It's hard to figure out the right clubs and you need to get a few breaks". Looking up the narrow chute that is the 18th fairway, Fitzpatrick was discomfited by spectators leaning forward on the right side for a better view.

Even for us amateurs, quadruple bogeys are the places where good rounds go to die.

The question now is three-fold: Is Masters Jordan back to stay for the weekend?

In other words, Spieth was saying he needed to hit the ball as if the hole was ten yards father than the actual distance. "The crowds are so great and they have been so gracious to me and our history out here and it's just incredible to play in front of them".

Jordan Spieth launches a tee shot during his first round of the 2017 US Masters.

Spieth's approach to the par five span back off the green into the water and after taking a penalty drop, he hit his fifth shot over the back and followed up with a poor chip and three putts from 30 feet.
