McConnell reaches out to Romney about possible Senate bid

Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney briefly flirted with President Donald Trump over the position of secretary of state- now Romney is plotting his next move In A Hilarious Twist, Mitt Romney Wants To Run For Senate To Troll Donald Trump
Warren Dawson | 08 April, 2017, 00:06

He's up for re-election in 2018, but told National Journal last month that he might consider retiring if Romney were to run for his seat.

"While it's no secret that I hold Mitt Romney in extraordinarily high esteem, my musing aloud on the subject has apparently snowballed into a frenzy of premature speculation", he said, adding that "overhyped intrigue doesn't reflect the reality of the situation, especially this soon after the last election".

Hatch's communications director Matt Whitlock suggested the Utah senator's public indecision is insincere.

Former Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney is considering running for Senate in 2018, according to a report published Thursday by the Atlantic. Chaffetz raised Hatch's ire in 2012 when he publicly considered challenging Hatch for his seat. Back in 2012, Romney, a Mormon, won the state's Republican presidential primary with 93% of the votes. Romney was openly critical of President Trump as the 2016 election progressed, but scaled back his vocal opposition after Trump won the presidency and considered Romney for US secretary of state.

Currently, though, Romney is on a charity trip in Indonesia.

I have my doubts whether Utah Republicans can convince Hatch to retire, but if they do, Romney in the Senate would be another pain in the neck for Donald Trump.

Assembly Speaker: Deal On Budget May Be Close
Cuomo is on board with the push to close the budget, and administration officials did not dispute that. State lawmakers have finally come to an agreement on a new state budget.

But he's been a folk hero in Utah ever since he took over and successfully ran the initially troubled 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City.

He said that after Hatch's comments to the National Journal, "people started talking".

Despite Senator Hatch still deciding if he'll run for an eighth term rumors about Romney are flying.

"I think it's just that".

Now that is not to say that Romney - a relatively youthful-looking and quite vigorous man - would stand out in the Senate.
