Google Maps Will Now Let You Create, Share, Follow 'Lists' of Places

Javier Burns | 14 February, 2017, 00:55

That isn't changing, though Google is making the experience more social by rolling out a new feature that allows users to add locations to their Favorites and share them with others.

When you tap Save, Maps will pull up your lists - there are preset lists such as "Favorites", "Want to go", and "Starred places".

For a while now, you've been able to save places of interest (like your favorite restaurants, bars and attractions you visited or want to visit) inside the Google Maps app.

To go back to the places you have saved, just go to the side menu and choose "Your Places" and open the saved tab. If you download offline maps of an area, all of the places that you've added to the list in that particular area will be available as well.

Lists can easily be shared with friends and family via pretty much any apps you can think of plus email. Sharing a link to a Google Maps list you've made could be a lot more helpful than just shooting over a bunch of random Yelp links. Other users can "follow" these lists to have access to them on their own devices later on.

Manchester United have never lost a home league game against the Watford, winning all three against them in the Premier League . Jose Mourinho's side reached the landmark tally courtesy of a 2-0 victory over Watford at Old Trafford on Saturday.

On a similar note, you can make short-lived lists if you know you're going to be driving around all day.

Maps' new feature also is created to show your saved places on the map itself. Tapping into that data opens up the Google Maps app if you have it installed - and here, you can click on "Save".

From today (13 Feb), the mobile app will let users share lists of their favourite places with their contacts, bringing a social dimension to the service. They then tap the Follow button to see new places as you add them.

The new feature is another step in social media for Google, which has struggled to bust into the social media world. With public lists, Google is appealing to its users to create the curated content it's now responsible for. The smartphone users who have upgraded their Google Maps application would be able to use the feature in complete functionality.
