Apple CEO Tim Cook Says Fake News is "Killing People's Minds"

"Apple chief executive Tim Cook was in the United Kingdom last week, and on being asked in an interview about what makes Augmented Reality so exciting, this is what he said, "...unlike Virtual Reality which closes the world out, AR allows individuals to be present in the world but hopefully allows an improvement on what's happening presently".
The augmented-reality technology rumored to be in Apple's (AAPL) upcoming iPhone 8 could look like a me-too feature if the company ends up following other smartphone makers to market with AR capabilities.
How big? How about as big as the iPhone?
"I'm excited about Augmented Reality because unlike Virtual Reality which closes the world out, AR allows individuals to be present in the world but hopefully allows an improvement on what's happening presently", said Tim Cook, speaking to The Independent.
I regard it as a big idea, like the smartphone. "I think AR is that big, it's huge". He added that it is unfortunate than some of the winners of today, are essentially people who spend time trying to garner more clicks instead of truth.
Cook confessed that he is really excited about the AR technology because of its potential. He said that he prefers more AR instead of VR because it allows you to remain anchored in real world while at the same time offering something extra.
The Apple AAPL, +0.89% chief executive has expressed enthusiasm for augmented reality before, but these comments, given during an interview with United Kingdom newspaper The Independent on Friday, lend another hint as to what the company has up its mixed-reality sleeve. Cook has suggested the need for a modern version of a big public information campaign. However, it seems like that is the plan for Apple, especially with its hundreds of employees working on augmented reality and virtual reality applications.
Technology companies must also play their part to stop the spread of such news stories taking hold, by innovating technologies to identify fake news stories and stop them from being circulated on social media as Facebook is doing with its news filter, Cook added. Around the same time, rumors began circulating that Apple had assembled a new team tasked with the development of a VR headset of some sort.
